iPhone, iPad and Simulator
Record a connected iOS device or the Simulator, then drop it into a device frame.
Screenify records iOS two ways: a real iPhone or iPad over USB, or the iOS Simulator on your Mac. Both appear under Device in the recording HUD.
Real device over USB
- Connect the iPhone or iPad with a cable and unlock it.
- Trust the Mac if prompted.
- In the HUD, choose Device and pick it from the list.
Screenify shows a live mirror window so you can see what you're recording. It captures the device screen directly, so there's no camera glare, no moiré, and the result is at the device's own resolution.
iOS Simulator
Start the Simulator from Xcode, then choose it under Device. Screenify captures the Simulator's screen content — not the Simulator window chrome — so you get a clean device screen.
Clean status bar
Simulator recordings can show the real time, a partial battery and whatever Wi-Fi state the Mac is in. Screenify can override the status bar to the standard demo values — 9:41, full battery, full signal — so recordings look consistent.
Tap indicators
Touches don't leave a visible trace in a screen capture, which makes iOS demos hard to follow. Screenify lets you place tap indicators on the timeline after recording, so the viewer sees where each tap landed.
Put it in a device frame
An iOS recording is the obvious candidate for a device mockup. In the editor, open the Mockup tab and pick a frame — Screenify filters the list to the right device class, so an iPhone recording shows iPhone frames and an iPad recording shows iPad frames.
You get three styles:
- 2D frame — a photoreal device image with your recording in the screen. Fast, sharp, many colours.
- 3D frame — a real 3D model you can rotate, light and move a camera around.
- Photo mockup — your recording composited into a photograph of a real scene, such as a hand holding the phone.
See Mockups.
Recording several takes
Simulator and USB device recordings can be appended to the same project the same way screen recordings can: + → Screen in the timeline. Takes of the same size join seamlessly. See Combining multiple recordings.
Limits worth knowing
- One device at a time.
- Device audio is not captured from a USB device; record narration separately with a voiceover. See Voiceover and captions.
- The device must stay connected and unlocked for the whole recording.
