Exporting
Formats, resolution, frame rate, aspect ratio, still frames, and what the free plan allows.
Click Export in the top-right corner of the editor.
Formats
| Format | Use it for |
|---|---|
| MP4 | The default. Anywhere video goes. |
| GIF | Short loops for chat, issue trackers, docs |
| WebP | Same role as GIF, noticeably smaller |
| Shareable link | Uploads and hands back a URL — see Share links |
Settings
| Setting | Notes |
|---|---|
| Resolution | Presets plus Custom. Exporting above what you recorded doesn't add detail. |
| Frame Rate | Match the recording unless you have a reason not to |
| Quality | Trades file size against fidelity |
| Destination | Where the file lands |
Aspect ratio
Set in the editor, not the export dialog — it changes composition, so you want to see it while you work.
Changing to a portrait or square ratio doesn't crop your recording. It changes the canvas; your recording is placed inside it, and you use padding, position and zoom to compose. That's how one recording becomes a wide version and a vertical version without recording twice.
Still frames
To export a single frame as an image: the camera button beside Export, or ⇧⌘E.
The image goes through the same rendering as the video, so you get the background, the mockup, the zoom at that moment, the cursor and the captions — not the raw capture. Choose PNG or JPG, a resolution and a file name, then Copy or Save.
PNG is the more faithful of the two, since it skips video compression entirely.
What the free plan allows
| Free | Pro | |
|---|---|---|
| Watermark | Yes | No |
| Maximum length | 5 minutes | Unlimited |
| 4K export | — | Yes |
| AI tools | — | Yes |
When an export would use something your plan doesn't include, Screenify tells you before the export runs, with the option to export without that feature or to upgrade. It won't render for several minutes and then refuse.
Speed
Export runs on the graphics chip. A few minutes of 1080p normally finishes in well under a minute on Apple Silicon. Heavy 3D mockups with shadows and reflections take longer.
MP4 files are written so they start playing before they've finished downloading, which matters if you're putting them straight on a web page.
If the export looks wrong
Everything you see in the preview is what the export produces — background, mockup, zoom, masks, cursor, captions. If they disagree, that's a bug worth reporting: Help → Send Feedback to Dev, with the timestamp where they differ.
