Keyboard shortcuts
Every editor shortcut, which ones you can remap, and the global keys that work while you record.
Press ⌘/ anywhere in the editor to open the shortcuts palette. ⌘, opens Settings, where most of these can be remapped.
Playback
| Keys | Does |
|---|---|
| Space | Play / pause |
| Home | Jump to the start of the timeline |
| End | Jump to the end of the timeline |
Editing
| Keys | Does |
|---|---|
| Delete | Delete the selected region |
| Backspace | Delete the selected region |
| ⌘Z | Undo |
| ⌘⇧Z | Redo |
| ⌘Y | Redo — the Windows-style alternative, kept so muscle memory works |
Timeline
| Keys | Does |
|---|---|
| Z | Add a zoom segment at the playhead |
| A | Add an annotation at the playhead |
| F | Add a keyframe at the playhead |
| ⇧T | Add text at the playhead, three seconds long |
| T | Toggle selection mode |
| S | Split the clip at the playhead |
| ⌘D | Delete the selected timeline item |
| ⌘= | Zoom into the timeline |
| ⌘- | Zoom out of the timeline |
| ⌘0 | Fit the whole timeline in view |
T and ⇧T are easy to mix up. T switches selection mode on and off; ⇧T drops in text. Text got the modifier because selection mode had the bare key first.
Navigation
| Keys | Does |
|---|---|
| Tab | Cycle through annotations stacked at the same moment |
| ⇧Tab | Cycle back through them |
| Esc | Clear the current selection |
Remapping
Everything under Playback, Editing and Timeline can be reassigned in Settings.
Five keys are fixed: Tab, ⇧Tab and Esc, because the editor relies on them behaving the way the rest of macOS does, and ⌘/ and ⌘,, because they are how you reach the shortcut list and Settings in the first place.
While the voiceover Record Card is counting down or recording, every editor shortcut stands down — including Space and Esc. The recorder owns the keyboard for that moment, so a stray Space can't pause the take you're in the middle of. They come back as soon as you close it.
While you are recording
Three keys are registered system-wide for the duration of a recording session, so they work while another app is focused:
| Keys | Does |
|---|---|
| ⌥⌘N | Reopen the teleprompter window |
| ⌥⌘↓ | Scroll the script down |
| ⌥⌘↑ | Scroll the script up |
These exist only while a recording session is live — they are registered when the recording HUD appears and released when recording ends, so they never sit on top of shortcuts in your other apps. See Teleprompter.
