Editing

Effects

3D Transform, masks, cinematic focus, callouts, annotations, keystrokes, cursor styling and light overlays.

Everything here is a track: add a segment where you want the effect, and it applies for that stretch of the timeline.

3D Transform

Tilts and moves the whole frame in perspective — the shot leans back, drifts, settles.

ControlDoes
PositionWhere the frame sits
RotationTilt on each axis
ScaleHow large
PerspectiveHow strong the foreshortening is

Two modes. Static holds one pose. Keyframes moves through several — each keyframe a pose, with easing between.

Templates

A library of ready-made moves, grouped by kind: dolly, pan and tilt, orbit and crane, static angles, and compound moves. Each card previews its motion on hover. Applying one fills in the keyframes, which you can then edit.

You can also set a pose by dragging directly on the preview: Cmd-drag moves, Option-drag scales, drag-rotate tilts, and double-click resets.

Masks

A region of the frame treated differently — usually to hide something.

EffectUse
BlurObscure a name, an email, an API key
PixelateSame, with a blockier look
SolidCover completely
HighlightDarken everything except the region

Draw the region on the preview and drag its handles to adjust. Masks travel with the frame: zoom in, and the mask stays on the thing it's covering rather than sliding off.

Several masks can overlap in time; the track splits into lanes so you can grab each.

Cinematic focus

A depth-of-field effect: one area stays sharp, the rest falls off into blur.

Two shapes. Radial is a soft circle — attention on one spot. Linear is a band at any angle — a tilt-shift look.

ControlDoes
BlurHow strong the falloff is
Focus sizeHow much stays sharp
FeatherHow gradual the edge is
AngleBand direction, linear mode only

Focus can be attached to a 3D Transform segment or to a zoom segment. On a zoom it tracks the zoom's own focus point, so with a cursor-following zoom the sharp area follows the cursor — a focus pull, not a static vignette.

Callout

Zoom, dim and a border on one region, in a single segment. Instead of building a zoom plus a mask plus a border by hand, you draw one rectangle and the callout does all three.

Controls cover highlight style, border and glow, reveal animation, corner radius, and how much the surroundings dim.

Annotations

Things you place on the frame rather than effects applied to it.

Text, Arrow and Image. Each has colour, border, shadow, size, and for text a font and stroke width. Drag on the preview to place and resize.

Press A to add one at the playhead.

An annotation is glued to the recording: zoom in and it travels with the frame, which is what you want for an arrow pointing at a button. For a title or a label that should stay put on screen and animate in, use the Text track instead.

Keystrokes

Shows the keys you pressed as an on-screen overlay — worth turning on for anything involving shortcuts, because a viewer cannot otherwise tell what you typed.

Cursor

Not a track — cursor settings apply to the whole project, from the Cursor panel.

  • Style — keep the recorded system cursor, or replace it with one of Screenify's. Vector cursors are recolourable; the glossy 3D set is fixed-colour.
  • Size
  • Smoothing — cleans up jitter
  • Click effects — a ring on click, and optionally a click sound
  • Tilt — leans in the direction of travel

Cursor effects need cursor data from the recording, so they don't apply to imported video files.

Light & Shadow

A transparent image laid over the frame — leaf shadows, window blinds, a shaft of light — to stop a clean render looking synthetic.

ControlDoes
OpacityHow strong
Position / ScaleWhere and how large
Over / UnderAbove the recording, or between the recording and the background
MotionBreathe, Sway or Drift — a slow drift so it isn't a frozen still
AmountHow much motion

Picking a new overlay switches the motion type to whatever suits that image, and keeps your Amount.

This layer is independent of mockups: it works on a plain background, over a device, or over a photo mockup.
