How to Screen Record with Webcam Overlay

Add a webcam bubble to your screen recording so viewers see your face alongside the content. Face-cam recordings build trust, increase engagement, and perform better on social media and landing pages.

Step-by-step

  1. 1

    Select your screen capture area

Open Screenify and choose what to record — a specific window, custom area, or full screen. The webcam overlay will float on top of whatever you capture.

  2. 2

    Enable webcam overlay

Toggle the webcam button in the Screenify toolbar. Your camera feed appears as a circular overlay in the corner. You can drag it to any corner before or during recording.

  3. 3

    Position and resize the overlay

Drag the webcam bubble to the bottom-left or bottom-right corner — away from important UI elements. Resize it by dragging the edge. Smaller is usually better; the screen content should be the star.

  4. 4

    Enable background removal (optional)

Turn on AI background removal to replace your room with a clean transparent or blurred backdrop. This keeps the focus on your face and the screen, not your bookshelf.

  5. 5

    Record and check framing

Hit Record. Glance at the overlay to make sure your face is centered and well-lit. Natural light from a window in front of you works best. Avoid backlighting.

Screenify features that help

Webcam Overlay

Adds a floating camera feed to your recording with drag-to-reposition and resize. No need to composite in a video editor afterward.

Background Removal

AI-powered background removal runs on-device using your Mac's Neural Engine. It works in real time without a green screen and keeps the overlay looking professional.

3D Camera Effects

Adds cinematic depth-of-field and subtle 3D perspective to your webcam feed, making it look like a studio production rather than a laptop camera.

Pro tips

Place the webcam overlay on the opposite side of where you're clicking. If you're demonstrating a left-side toolbar, put the overlay bottom-right.

Use a ring light or face a window — good lighting matters more than camera quality for webcam overlays.

Keep the overlay small (15-20% of frame). Viewers came for the screen content; the webcam is supplementary context, not the main show.

If you're recording a tutorial, toggle the webcam off during complex steps and on during explanations. Screenify lets you toggle mid-recording.
