Record Notion walkthroughs without exposing private pages. Setup guide for database demos, wiki onboarding, and template showcase videos.
Walk new hires through your Notion workspace structure — where to find HR docs, project trackers, and meeting notes. They rewatch it instead of asking 'where is X?' on Slack.
Show how to use a custom Notion database you built — filters, views, relations, rollups. A 3-minute video replaces a 2-page written guide nobody reads.
Record yourself running through a workflow (publishing a blog post, onboarding a client) in Notion. Embed the recording in the Notion page itself as living documentation.
If you sell Notion templates, record a walkthrough showing the template in action — database views, automations, linked databases. Buyers need to see it working, not just screenshots.
In Screenify Studio, select Window Capture and pick the Notion window.
If you're using Notion in the browser, hide the bookmarks bar (Cmd+Shift+B) and close other tabs to remove clutter.
Open Notion and navigate to the page you'll record. Before starting, collapse sidebar sections you won't reference: hover over section headers (Favorites, Shared, Private) and click the collapse arrow. This hides private page names from the recording.
If you're showing a database, set up the view you want before recording. Switch to the correct view (Table, Board, Gallery), apply filters, and sort order. Doing this live wastes recording time and confuses viewers.
Enable cursor highlight — Notion's UI is mostly white space with small interactive elements. Without a highlight, viewers lose track of your cursor between clicks.
Start recording. When navigating between pages, click and WAIT for the page to fully load before speaking. Notion's lazy loading means there's a 0.5-1s skeleton screen — talking over it while the content hasn't appeared yet is jarring.
To demonstrate a Notion database, start with the broadest view (full table) and progressively add filters. Click Filter > add a filter > select property > set condition. This teaches the viewer the workflow, not just the end result.
Show linked databases by navigating to the source database first, then to the page with the linked view. Explain what's synced and what's view-specific (filters, sorts, visible properties).
For template demos, use Cmd+Shift+D to duplicate a page live during the recording. This shows the viewer that the template actually works as a starting point, not just a static layout.
Auto-zoom on Notion's property menus. When you click a database property (Select, Multi-select, Date, Relation), a tiny dropdown appears with options in 13px text. Auto-zoom catches the click and zooms in so viewers can read the property values instead of seeing a blurry popup.
Collapse the sidebar before recording. Notion's sidebar shows every page in your workspace — including 'Personal Journal', 'Salary Negotiations', and 'Random Ideas'. Press Cmd+\ to collapse the sidebar entirely. Open it briefly only when demonstrating navigation.
Use silence detection for page transitions. Notion tutorials involve a lot of clicking between pages, waiting for loads, and reading. Silence detection marks the 2-3 second gaps between each page load so you can trim dead air without scrubbing through the entire recording.
Record database views separately. If you're showing a database with Table, Board, and Calendar views, record each view as a separate section. Switching between views live causes the layout to reflow, which looks jumpy on video. Cut between them in the timeline editor for clean transitions.
Leaving the sidebar fully expanded. Your sidebar shows your workspace hierarchy — including pages with names like 'Q4 Revenue Targets', 'Performance Reviews', and 'Job Offers'. Collapse it with Cmd+\ before recording.
Talking while Notion is loading. You click a page link, start explaining, and the viewer sees a skeleton loader for 1 second before content appears. Wait for the page to render, then speak. This small pause makes the video dramatically more watchable.
Navigating a large database without filters. Scrolling through 500 rows in a Notion table on video is unwatchable. Apply filters before recording to show only the relevant 10-20 rows. Explain the filter setup as part of the tutorial.
Using Notion in Light mode with a white background. Notion's default light theme is mostly white space with gray text. After video compression, the contrast drops further. Switch to Dark mode (Settings > Appearance > Dark) or ensure your recording resolution is high enough (1440p+) to preserve the subtle contrast.
