Screenify Studio vs Screen Studio vs Loom: Honest Comparison (2026)

Choosing a screen recording tool shouldn't require a spreadsheet. But with so many options — each with different pricing models, feature sets, and limitations — it kind of does.

So I made the spreadsheet. Then I turned it into this article.

This is a comparison of three tools I've used extensively: Screenify Studio (which I built), Screen Studio, and Loom. I'll be upfront about my bias — I created Screenify — but I'll also be honest about where the other tools are better.

Pricing: The Elephant in the Room

Let's start with what matters to most people.

Screen Studio costs $29 per month. That's $348 per year. They recently removed their lifetime plan, which means ongoing subscription is the only option for a tool that runs locally on your Mac.

Loom is free for up to 5 minutes per video with a cap of 25 videos. Beyond that, it's $15/month per user. For teams, this adds up fast.

Screenify Studio has a genuinely free plan — no watermarks, no time limits, no video caps. The Pro plan is $149 one-time. You pay once, you own it forever. No recurring charges.

For someone who records 2-3 videos per week, here's the annual cost:

  • Screen Studio: $348/year
  • Loom (creator plan): $180/year
  • Screenify Pro: $149 total (year 1), $0 after that

After 5 months, Screenify pays for itself compared to Screen Studio. After 10 months, it pays for itself compared to Loom.

Recording Quality & Features

Screen Studio

Screen Studio pioneered the "cinematic screen recording" category on Mac. The 3D perspective effects, smooth zoom, and cursor beautification made flat screen recordings look professionally produced.

What it does well:

  • Smooth, polished cursor effects
  • 3D perspective that looks great by default
  • Good selection of backgrounds and padding options

What it lacks:

  • No AI-powered features (no auto-captions, no smart clipping)
  • Limited editor — mostly adjustment panels, not a timeline
  • No free plan to try before buying
  • Subscription-only pricing

Loom

Loom is the king of quick, shareable recordings. Record something, get a link, share it. The workflow is incredibly smooth for async communication.

What it does well:

  • Fastest path from recording to shared link
  • Good cloud hosting and viewer analytics
  • Cross-platform support (web, Mac, Windows, iOS)

What it lacks:

  • 5-minute free limit is restrictive for tutorials
  • Very limited editing (trim only)
  • No visual effects — no 3D camera, no callouts, no zoom
  • All processing happens in the cloud (privacy concern)

Screenify Studio

Screenify is designed for people who want both speed and polish — record quickly, edit with AI assistance, and export something cinematic.

What it does well:

  • AI editing suite: Smart Clipping, Auto-Captions, Smart Zoom (all 100% offline)
  • 30+ cinematic 3D camera templates: One-click application
  • Full multi-track editor: 10+ tracks for zoom, callouts, music, and captions
  • iOS Simulator recording: A dedicated mode for mobile developers
  • Free plan with no meaningful limitations on quality or time

What it lacks:

  • macOS only (no Windows or web yet)
  • Newer product with a smaller community
  • Cloud features are still being refined

Privacy: A Bigger Deal Than You Think

Loom processes your recordings in the cloud. Your screen content — which might include code, customer data, or private Slack messages — is uploaded to Loom's servers.

Screen Studio records and processes locally. Your recordings stay on your Mac.

Screenify Studio also records and processes locally, but goes further — all AI features (captions, silence removal, zoom) run entirely on your device. There are no cloud API calls. You can turn off your internet and every feature still works. If you record sensitive data, this is the ethical choice.

Who Should Use What

  • Use Screen Studio if: You want the most established 3D effects and don't mind the $29/mo subscription.
  • Use Loom if: Quick async communication is your only goal and you need cloud hosting.
  • Use Screenify Studio if: You want AI-powered editing, cinematic 3D effects, and the peace of mind that comes with a $149 lifetime license.
