Record Adobe XD with readable properties and clear mode switching. Guide for design maintenance, migration walkthroughs, and prototyping demos.
Teams with existing XD files need tutorials for editing, updating, and maintaining those designs. Migration to Figma isn't always immediate — XD maintenance tutorials fill the gap.
Record the migration process — export XD files, import to Figma, fix layout differences, recreate interactions. Show the before (XD) and after (Figma) side by side.
Record interactive prototypes built in XD — auto-animate transitions, voice triggers, timed transitions. XD's prototyping features still work well for demo presentations.
Record walkthroughs of XD design systems — component library, character styles, colors. Show how to use shared components and maintain consistency across artboards.
In Screenify Studio, select Window Capture and pick the Adobe XD window.
Record at 1440p — XD's Properties Inspector has compact form fields similar to Figma.
Open Adobe XD and your file. XD's Home screen shows recent files with thumbnails and names. If client projects are listed, open your file first, then start recording — or disable the Home screen in Preferences.
Set your view mode: Design mode for layout editing, Prototype mode for interaction wiring. Choose the mode you'll demonstrate before recording. Switching modes mid-recording changes the entire right-panel interface.
Check for co-editors — if others are in the file, their cursors and names appear. Coordinate with them or work in a local copy (File > Save as Local Copy) for the recording.
When editing properties in the Properties Inspector (right panel), click a field and WAIT for the value to highlight before changing it. XD's property fields are small — viewers need to see which property you're adjusting.
Auto-zoom on the Properties Inspector. XD's right panel shows width, height, rotation, opacity, blur, and shadow values in a dense stack of fields. When you change a border radius value, auto-zoom catches the click and zooms in so viewers see the specific property changing among 15+ property rows.
Record Design and Prototype modes separately. Design mode (layout, styling, components) and Prototype mode (wires, transitions, triggers) are visually different UIs. Record each as a separate section. Explain the mode switch when it happens: 'switching to Prototype mode now.'
Show Auto-Animate transitions at full speed then in slow motion. XD's Auto-Animate creates smooth transitions between artboard states. Play the prototype to show the animation at real speed, then use Screenify's timeline editor to slow down the transition so viewers can study the motion.
Mention XD's maintenance status honestly. Adobe is not actively developing new XD features. Be transparent in your tutorial: 'XD is in maintenance mode, but if your team uses it, here's how to work effectively.' This builds trust instead of pretending XD is actively developed.
Not acknowledging XD's current status. Recording an XD tutorial without mentioning that Adobe has deprioritized XD leaves viewers uninformed. They may invest time learning XD without knowing its uncertain future. Be upfront about it.
Showing the Home screen with client projects. XD's Home screen lists recent files with thumbnails and names: 'Acme Corp App Redesign v3', 'Client: BigBank Dashboard'. Open your file before starting the recording to skip the Home screen.
Switching between Design and Prototype mode without explanation. The interface changes significantly between modes. If you switch without explaining, viewers lose orientation. Pause and say 'switching to Prototype mode now' so they can see the UI change.
Recording interactions without showing the Prototype wiring. You play a prototype to show a button navigating to another artboard. But viewers never saw the wire connecting the button to the target. Show the Prototype mode wiring FIRST, explain the trigger and action, then switch to preview.
